Show Record tips hat to deserving, hard working heroes: teachers There are plenty of unsung heroes in the world today. It seems like we are reading or hearing about another one every week; but we at the Record feel that there is one group of unsung heroes who deserve to become un-unsung, to get the praise they have earned over many hard years teachers. You all remember teachers. If you are out of school now you probably remember them a little more fondly. You understand a little better now what they put up with to help you become a better person. You are older and wiser now and understand the type of things they were trying to teach you, not just reading, 'riting and 'rithmetic, but responsibility, morality and a sense of justice. If you are still in school, your opinion, at least openly, is that teachers aren't worth much opinion. But, we are convinced that in the majority of cases that is just the opinion you express to your peers. Somewhere inside of you, you understand also. You know that there are teachers, maybe not all of them, who rea'ly do care about what you do and how you do it. You understand that they are doing more than just their jobs. You see them taking tickets at a ballgame, spending extra time to help a musical production be just a little better, traveling with the band and chorus to places all over the state all to help you. We admit that all teachers are not all that they could be. In fact, we admit that some probably -shouldn't be teaching. But that is true in any profession. We also admit that some reporters shouldn't be reporting and some editors shouldn't be editing. And looking at the other side of the question, the majority of the teachers are doing what comes down to a great job. So, today, we sing your song, teachers. We tip our collective hat to you. We tell you thanks, for what you helped us to become and for what you are helping our children to be. |
