Show I Manila a Clara Robinson I Phone 784-3463 Testimonial held for Chad Reed A large crowd filling the chapel, lounge, and recreational hall of the LDS church attended the farewell testimonial for Chad Reed at 10 a.m. Sunday. Special speakers for the testimonial were Bishop Gary Morril of American Fork, Utah and Fred Weeks. A special song was sung by Gwen and Judy Reed, Maren Christensen, and Kristee Briggs. They were accompanied ac-companied on the piano by Marshall Briggs. Opening prayer was given by Kurt Reed. Lyman LDS Stake President Ronald Walker gave the closing prayer. Family members speaking were Chad's mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Reed. Relatives and friends gathered for a lunch at the home of Chad's parents Sunday after church. Out-of-town guests were Mary Jane Mecham and Son, Neil, of Logan, Utah, Afton and Clifford Christensen of Brigham City, (Chad's maternal grandparents), Walter and Leora Cottle of Salt Lake City (paternal grandparents), Von Christensen and daughter Maren of Tremonton, Utah, Mr. and Mrs. William Gammell and children of Orem; Mr. and Mrs. Val Norman and children of Hyrum, Utah; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Reed and children and Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Johnson of Vernal; Rolen Williams and children, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Lowell - and children of Green River, Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs. Grant Christensen and children, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Pachacek and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Porenta all of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Mrs. Robert Maly and daughters, Debbie Reed, Derlene , Reed, Julia Beck and Shelly Christensen all of Logan, and friends from Manila and McKinnon. Chad will leave to enter the mission training center in Provo on March 13 before going to the Tennessee-Nashville Tennessee-Nashville mission for 2 years. The entire Nimble Needles 4-H club met for an election meeting at the Manila High School cafeteria Wednesday Wed-nesday after school. New officers elected were Nola Lamb, president; Theresa Hansen, vice president, secretary; treasurer, Michelle Steinaker; historian, Melissa Steinaker; reporter, Heidi Steinaker; song leader, Darla Sarrett and recreational leader, Shari Reed. .The Manila matmen recently participated in two AAU Wrestling Tournaments. At the tournament held in Roosevelt, on March 1, Glenn Ellsworth and David Steinaker captured cap-tured first place awards and Stew Leith, Troy Gale and T.J. Smith and Nick Elmer placed second with Greg Lambert, Andy Meinrod, Daryl Griggs, Dale Griggs and Cory Bernard placing third. On March 8 in Duchesne, Troy Sadlier and Brent Meinrod walked away with first place and 2nd place went to Chad Leith, Darrell Bernard and Glen Ellsworth. Third to Zeb Beck, Andy Meinrod, and Troy Gale. These wrestlers have qualified for regional tournament to be held March 29 in Vernal. All of Peggy Briggs 4-H girls who are taking "Off to a Good Start" plan to give demonstrations at the Sweetwater County 4-H demonstration contest to be held at the Green River High School at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 15. The 2nd year sewing girls plan demonstrations for the Sweetwater County Demonstration Contest March 15 in Green River, Wyoming. Mrs. Curtis Slaugh left Monday of last week for Salt Lake City. While there she visited her son-in-law Orvel Potter who had undergone surgery at the University Hospital. While there she was joined by her daughter, Mrs. Leo (Arva) Slagowski, of Idaho Falls, Idaho and all of the Orvel Potter family before returning home Wednesday. On Thursday she went to Green River and visited with her daughters and sons-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Leon Brady and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Peterson all of them went to Logan. Mrs. Slaugh returned to Manila Monday March 10. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Schofield and children have just returned from a trip to Disneyland in California. Accompanying Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cottle of Salt Lake City to Manila this weekend was Lonnie Crosby. Lonnie grew up in Manila. He entered the CCC's in the spring of 1933 and has only teen in Manila for 3 short visits since then. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Christensen and children and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Burke of Rock Springs, Wyoming were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. D.S. Ferrero, March 9. A good sized crowd attended the senior citizen dinner at the senior citizen center on Saturday evening. Following dinner they divided into groups with some playing pinochle, some pool and others cootie. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. B. Freeman of California and Lonnie Crosby of Virginia. Sharon Lambert, chairman for the DagUett County heart fund drive reports that $272. HI was collected In the county this year. Workers for this drive were Muri Oan Campbell and Linda i Steven James Judd. Temperatures were a little cooler this past week in Manila, but continued to thaw. Unpaved roads made school bus driving a real job and one bus was stuck twice. This week it is much drier and the roads are better. Two small storms brought .21 of an inch of rain to the area.
