Show Camp Tokawana DUP meets at Eva Hatch home Camp Tokawana DUP members met on March 7 at the home of Eva Hatch. Sixteen members were in attendance. Those assisting with hostess duties were Lila Robbins and Florence So wards. Captain Marie Lee conducted the meeting. She introduced two guests, Nila Bowler and Eva Sweet. Bernice Burke led us in the pledge to the flag. Vera Bigelow gave the prayer. Eleanor Rust conducted the song, "The Quilting Party." Eva Hatch was at the piano. Secretary Lila Robbins read the minutes of February 1 meeting, and they were approved. Daughter Robbins also read the by-laws pertaining to the nominating committee for new officers of the camp. Sharon Evertsen, Thelma Thacker and Bemice Burke have been chosen as the nominating committee. New officers will be installed in our May 1 meeting at the Golden Age Center. Mable Neiberger reported on the last county meeting she attended. She urged us to begin preparing now for an article to be given to the DUP Museum to be sold this summer. Donated articles ar-ticles of clothing will also be sold at the museum. We sang "Happy birthday" to Arlene Chivers who will be 92 years young on March 11. Paula Wright gave the history of her great-great grandmother, Susanna Goudin Cardon, born July 30, 1833 in Italy. She was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints August 18, 1853. Her family began a four-month journey from Missouri to Utah with a handcart company on September 26, 1856. She married Paul Cardon, and out of this union six sons and five daughters were born. They spent most of their married life in Ogden and Logan, She died on December 8, 1920 at the age of 87. The lesson, "Emigrant Pioneers" was given by Sharon Evertsen. She told the highlights of the lives of John Davidson Burt, Hyrum Theron Spencer and Maria Susanna Merrick Thorne. The following is a statement from the lesson manual: "We hope this lesson will inspire descendents to explore all sources for stories of their pioneer ancestors and hasten the publication of their research findings." Our next meeting will be held at the home of Reva Anderson on April 4. |
