Show Elementary students flood Express mail Sixteen letters to the editor from Naples Elementary students flooded the Vernal Express mailbox last week. The letters were written as part of an activity by the school called "Wiseguy Olympics," Each week students , along with their parents participated in an activity together. The sixth week activity ac-tivity was to write a letter to the editor. Other activities included spelling tests, math quizzes, designing a dream house and a writing contest. The letters praised everything from the drinking fountain at the library to the Sports Section of the Express. "One thing I really like is my school lunch," writes David Winn, third grade. "The cooks at Naples Elementary really know how to make things taste good and they are generous. I like everything they make but spinach it's the pits," he adds. Kathy Winn said she likes the good books and displays at the County Library. "Sometimes when I go to get a book they have a lot of neat displays, and the water is always so cold in the foun tainit's very refreshing." she writes Many of the letters praised the Vernal Express for its news coverage, but a letter that gives cause for reconsideration of rate increases was written by Amy Deans. "Thank you for giving us news at a price people can still afford. Inflation causes most things to go up, but it is nice to see your paper still costs the same for this year." A letter written by Rachael Cook, first grade, suggested that a park be developed in the Naples-Davis area. Sheila Cook recommended a community com-munity center "that would provide recreational facilities for students and adults during the school year." The major thing the students praised the most was Naples Elementary. Such activities as fashion shows, favorite teachers, peanut machines, book store and Wiseguy Olympics were mentioned by students as things that make the school fun. All the activities during the Wiseguy Olympics were done outside of regular school time. |
