Show FFA members win firsts in region contests Last week Uintah Chapter Future Farmers of America (FFA) hosted the annual contest for parliamentary procedure, oratory, extemporary speaking and proficienty awards. Other schools that participated were from North Summit, South Summit, Roosevelt, Altamont and Duchesne. Extemporary speaking is when contestants are given thirty minutes to prepare a five minute speech on a selected topic. Mark Holmes, a senior, son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Holmes, represented Uintah in this area winning first place with Roosevelt second and Duchesne third. Chad Slaugh, a senior, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Slaugh, placed first in oratory speaking. Chad gave an eight minute prepared speech entitled "A Look at the Future for Future Farmers." In parliamentary procedure, Roosevelt won first place, South Summit second, with Uintah placing third. Members of the Uintah team are David Cook, Larry Campbell, Vance Merrell, Chad Slaugh and Kay Smuin with Mark Holmes as an alternate. Greg Morrill, a junior, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyn Morrill, won the area proficiency award in sheep production. Mark Holmes and Chad Slaugh represented Uintah at Region Competition Com-petition held March 10 in Heber. Both placed first over areas 3 and 4. Some of the schools were Bingham, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Provo, Spanish Fork and Wasatch. This will enable both boys to attend the state contest, being held March 24 and 25 at BYU. |
