Show PARROTS make a talkative pet. All about Amazon parrots There are about 330 species in the parrot family. All 330 species are rightly called parrots, although many of them usually are referred to by other names, like macaws, conures, lories, etc. Members of the. parrot family are distinguished by their large hooked beaks, which are rounded. The upper mandible is movable, giving parrots' beaks sufficient force to crack nuts and hard-shelled fruits. Parrots have fleshy tongues. Their feet are adapted to forest life and habitation in trees. They have two toes in front and two behind, and most parrots especially the Amazons are agile climbers. Amazons are medium-sized parrots and range from 10 to 19 inches in length. They're solid in build and have a basic coloration of green. They have tails that are slightly rounded. The wings are round and very broad, but not very long. Amazons are excellent talking birds. Amazons are widely kept in the United States. They are popular in Europe, which has a more established bird fancy than in the United States. Like all other parrots, Amazons are temperamental. They can be highly affectionate, but sometimes they may be very particular about with whom they are affectionate. Amazons are intelligent birds and usually will become good affectionate pets with good training. There are many instances of Amazons that have become so tame that they were left completely at liberty. |
