ENETTE TIMOTHY JANA SUE GUFFEY Local teenagers selected Miss Utah Pageant finalists Miss Jana Sue Guffey, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Guffey, Jr. of Vernal and Enette Timothy 16, daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Timothy of Vernal have been selected to be finalists in the 1980 Miss Utah National Teenager Pageant to be held May 2, 3, 4 1980 at the New Ramada Inn and the Little Theatre at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah. This pageant is the official state final to the national pageant to be held in August in Atlanta, Georgia over national television. Miss Susan Nielsen, of River Heights, Utah is the reigning Miss Utah National Teenager. The contestants from all over the state will be judged on scholastic achievement-leadership; poise-personality; appearance-beauty. There will be no swim-suit or talent competition. Each contestant will recite a 100 word essay on the subject "What's Right About America" which is the theme of the pageant. Each contestant accepted will be requested to participate in the Volunteer Community Com-munity Service Program of the National Teenager Pageant. This teaches teenagers to become caring adults and to share in school and civic affairs. A mini-modeling charm course will be taught during the 3 day event. Miss Guffey is being sponsored by Christengen.,, Diamond-. : Products Company of Vernal. Her hobbies include reading, sewing, collecting key chains and state spoons, as well as various sports activities. Jana is active in the Jr. Bowling Association in Vernal, serving as secretary of her league for the past five years and is also a state jr. director for the Utah State Bowling Association. She is very active in the youth group and other activities of the First Baptist Church in Vernal where she is a member. Jana was chosen to be in the 1979 edition of Who's Who in American High School Students for merit achievement. She is a senior at Uintah High. Miss Timothy is being sponsored by Joyces House of Beauty, Dinah Jeans & Things, Mr. "S" Clothing, Mar Ella Fashions, Spotlight Fashions, Naples Trading Post. Her hobbies include in-clude snow skiing, water skiing, swimming, swim-ming, hiking, dancing and Softball. The winner of the Miss Utah National Teenager Pageant will receive among other things a $500 cash scholarship; a full scholarship to Barbizon International; In-ternational; and an all expense paid trip to Atlanta, Ga., for $20,000 in cash scholarships and many other prizes. Miss Melissa Bradley of Mansfield, Ohio is the current Miss National Teenager, .. ....... - . . -. . a.. dergarten. - Candida was the youngest to be chosen to perform in the Overland Elementary School Talent Show on Feb. 12. She sang and performed to the song "Five Foot Two" for which she received a certificate of outstanding achievement. She also auditioned and was selected to perform in the 21st annual "Stars of Tomorrow" talent show, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Rock Springs, Wyoming and held Feb. 22 in the high school auditorium in Rock Springs. There were approximately 150 elementary to high school age students who auditioned. She again was the youngest out of the 24 who were chosen to perform; and was also awarded another certificate for outstanding performance. Candida has also sung in church programs, family reunions and she along with her two year old sister, Mandy, sang for their grandparents' golden wedding celebration in Vernal this last November. Candida is also active in dance and gymnastics; and was chosen Miss UBIC Tiny Tot Princess for 1975. Grandparents of Candida are Mr. and Mrs. A Paul Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Dan L. Oaks and Mrs. Elviria Slaugh all of Vernal; and Mrs. Maud Heal of Provo, Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Danny Oaks and family, former residents of Vernal now reside at 316 Taylor St. in Rock Springs, Wyoming. |
