We think this point has about been reached in the housing market. Many families cannot afford the inflated prices and the high cost of financing a home. In America, land and home ownership owner-ship are associated with basic freedoms and rights. Take the possiblity of home-ownership home-ownership away from the individual and there goes the initative that makes him willing to struggle for something he can call his own. Home onwership is vital to our families, our communities and to our nation, as well as to the general economy. The greatness of America is based on the free enterprise system, where the ownership of land and goods is the driving driv-ing force that improves our living standard. stan-dard. We hope our leaders can turn the tide of the present economic crisis and regain fiscal responsibility. We also hope that each will shoulder some of the responsibility and learn to live without going into bondage to others. If not, goodby to the American dream. Last week Sheriff Arden W. Stewart had his vehicle smashed up when he stopped to assist a stranded female motorist. The Sheriff stopped behind the stalled vehicle and after replacing a fan belt for a lady and seeing her on her way he got back in his vehicle and reported over his radio that all was 10-24 (assignment completed). Then there was a crash from behind. A large transport truck driver seeing the red flashing light and also an oncoming vehicle crashed into the rear of the Sheriff's vehicle. The high truck bumper came through the rear window of the Sheriff's car. The Sheriff immediately radioed back to the dispatcher to send out an officer of-ficer and a wrecker, "I've been hit". This experience almost makes one wonder if it is wise to stop and help someone so-meone in need. If the Sheriff isn't safe, then who is? |
