It is a heart message, and it is couched in terms that every true red-blooded American can understand. It is an S. O. S. signal sent by brave hearts that Impresses itself upon all hearts over here which are responsive to it. It is a call for SMOKES. Thousands are hearing: the call and answering it. Thousands, likewise, have not j'et been affected by the messaee. It is the purpose of the tobacco fund to interpret this message to the thousands who have not as yet become Impressed with its significance. American soldiers are being transferred to the fighting zones every day from one or the other of the training camps in the United States. Many of them are accustomed to have ineinsiiioKoa. Real old United Statos smokes. And it is the intent of the tobacco fund to see to it that the Sammies who are going over there to lay down their lives for the cause which Is so close to every one of us are not deprived of the liulo comfort and joy they were used to at home. For this reason we are appealing to you for contributions with which to buy good American tobacco for tho men in the trenches. The fund lias already exceeded the $4000 goal, but it must be remembered that tobacco, even in view of the reduced cost at which the fund gets it. Is not a cheap commodity and does not last long when it must be supplied to hundreds of thousands thou-sands of fighting men.
