Show '.TRAVESTY IIL0111 EfMCTEDWITHEBS Versatile Company Needed to Play "For Pity's Sake," Coming to Orpheum. Those who remember the days of the melodrama recall that au actor wasn't an actor in those times unless he could "double," that is, play more than one role in 'the same production. The actors supporting Cluirles Withers in "For Pity's Sake," to be at the Orpheum Wednesday, have to be equally Skilful and by the fact that they double, they heighten the travesty and make it even more mirth-compelling. Mi. Withers 's company consists of nine people, but they play a score of characters. Briefly, "1'or Pity's Sake" is the vehicle which a traveling troupe of thespians is offering at tho village "opry house." The first sceue shows the versatile Charles Withers and his stage son, advertising the attraction by word of mouth and the billboard route. Although Mr. Withers retains tho same character throughout, his "son" is next seen as a "boob." In quick succession he does a "specialty" between the acts of the melodrama, becomes a sailor, and then a submarine captain. The villain is also seen as a minister and an old man. The hero "doubles" as another old man and the female characters each play two or more roles. When they are not on the stage or changing costume cos-tume they are working the various effects ef-fects off stage and leading the 'mob." Somebody has said that Charles Withers and'iiis company should be seen twice, the first time to appreciate the clever work of Withers and the second to enjoy the travesty on the old-time melodrama played by his company.
