MEMBERS of the editorial staff of the Utoniau, the University of Utah annual, ai"e now at work on the finishing touches of the book, which they promise will be fully up to the standard of the Utonians of past years, despite the obstacles which the war presented. Al-readv Al-readv practically all the photographs which will go into the book have bceu taken and turned over to the engraver, and a great deal of the printed matter has been set up in type. The book will make its appearance this year about two weeks earlier than usual". It will be ready for distribution on the campus by May 1. In the past the annual has seldom come out before, the middle of May, and frequently not until the end of the month. The reason rea-son for the decision to issue the book on an earlier date is to anticipate any sudden closing of the university, to provide for the training of drafted men. The vanity fair contest, or "beauty contest," as1 the students term it, will close on March 1. The co-ed who obtains ob-tains the largest number of votes in tho contest will be featured in Hbe Utonian. There are about eight contestants con-testants who aro putting up a -stiff fight for the honor, according to the editor, but he refuses to give any further facts. Thomas R. Rees, as editor in chief, is responsible for the publication of the annual this year. He has chosen Yardis A. Fisher as business manager and Devirl Stewart as sales manager. Miss Helen Spencer is editor of the society section of the book, and David Coleman is editor of the ball and chain section, the humorous division. Miss Dolores Stohl is assisting in the editing of the ball and chain section. Bryan .Johnson and Miss Hazel McMullen are in charge of the campus year section. Miss Lucile Sneddon is manager of the organization section. The following students are listed as artists on the staff-: John Sugdeu, Miss Margaret Marshall, Miss Ruth Harwood and Oscar Os-car Van Cott. March 1 is the last day cm which coupons may be bought for the book, it being the policy of the -editors to print only as many copies as have been ordered. Until that date the following students will sell coupons: Miss Algic Barlow. Miss Daisy liolapp, Miss Mar-jorie Mar-jorie Whitelcy, Lowry Alien, Lyman Home, Kenneth Barnes, Hyrum Bel nap. Miss Ruth King, Evan Gilchrist, Fred Jarrad, Miss Lavon Sharp. No mate- rial for the book will be. accepted after I April 15. The annua! "U" day comes I early in April, and it is the plan to send the book ,to press just as soou after that date as cuts showing the activities of the day can be prepared, j |
