Show Local company to distribute computer safes for hotel rooms Elsafe, a computer-controlled keyless safe for hotel rooms, will be installed and serviced in Utah by Elsafe Utah, Inc., a newly-formed company in Park City. The company is the newest affiliate of Elsafe International Inter-national AS, Norway, developers and manufacturers manufac-turers of the digital safe. Alf H. Jakhelln is president of Elsafe Utah, Inc. More than 30,000 Elsafe computer-controlled safes hae been sold in 37 countries. Not one has ever been broken into, according to company officials. Jakhelln said that the safes also will be an impor tant addition to the many condominiums that are rented rent-ed for short periods during the ski season. Elsafe is a full-sized steel safe that enables guests to select their own combination by depressing numbers of a telephone-type digital keyboard. key-board. A microprocessor stores the combination and allows the safe to be opened only when that combination is entered. It does not use keys, which can be copied or lost. If the. wrong combination is tried the digital panel flashes to tell the user to try again. As a safeguard against again-st outsiders trying to arrive at the combination through tnai ana error, me saie mechanism refuses to function func-tion for 30 minutes after the wrong combination is tried three times. Capacity of the safe is 18.5 gallons enough to store briefcases, large purses, carmeras and other large valuables. Walls are 15-inch-thick steel. Doors are 13-inch-thick and designed to prevent jimmying. The safe is bolted to the floor from the inside to prevent removal. The computerized safes, which now are available only to hotels, motels, condominiums con-dominiums and cruise ships, soon will be sold through retailers. |
