Show m W ,; Park City racer Marit Glenne Oktoberfest run prizes go to valley racers Paul Pilkington of Roy, Utah breezed to victory in Saturday's Oktoberfest five-mile five-mile run with an earth-scorching earth-scorching time of 25:48. A Salt Lake City woman, Robin Lockwood, rolled to a 32:04 win in the women's division. Pilkington and Lockwood received midweek season's ski passes to the Park City Ski Area for their efforts in the event sponsored by Prospector Square Athletic Club. "The course was hilly and tough," Pilkington said after his victory; "I was a lot slower than I expected." Pilkington is currently training train-ing 120 miles each week and will be running in a marathon mara-thon in the Minneapolis area next week. Lockwood agreed with Pilkington's assessment of the course. "It was tough m hilly and windy. It was a good race," she said. Lock-wood Lock-wood felt that the altitude slowed her down a bit even though she trains 70 miles a week. Although the top two spots weren't taken by locals. Parkites didn't go winless in the five miler that wound through Prospector Square, up past the Ski Area, down Thaynes Canyon Drive and back to Prospector Square. Marit Glenne, Madonna Harris and Bob Weisenfeld all captured top honors in their respective classes. Weisenfeld turned a 32:35 time to capture the men's 30:34 age bracket. Harris took the women's 25-29 category with a 33:27 mark. And Glenne captured the 40-44 women's title with a 37: 41 mark. Other Parkites to top the running in Saturday's race were Roxanne Toly, who took third in the women's 19-24-year-old bracket, and Irene Ziegler who placed second in the 45-49 category. In the men's division, Paul Eichenberger ran for a third place in the 24-29 age bracket. Dick Beaufait nabbed a second place in the 35-39 age group and Bob Zeigler took another second place in the 45-49 bracket. The Fifth Annual Oktoberfest Oktober-fest Run drew 95 entrants, according to Jeanine Caro-fanello, Caro-fanello, manager of the Prospector Athletic Club. Winners in the various age brackets received day passes at ParkWest. Second-place Second-place finishers in age categories cate-gories took home season passes to the White Pine Touring Center and third-place third-place finishers won day passes to the Prospector Square Athletic Club. |
