Show Muckers post easy victory by David Mueller Tries by Mike Hanson, Frank Fields, and Jackson Popovich (2) keyed the Park City Muckers to a 3-2-4 win over a recently-organized Ogden Rugby Club on Saturday Satur-day at City Park. Hanson, Fields and Popovich Pop-ovich all made their first 1983 tries in this final match of the year for the Muckers. Coupled with a last week's fine performance in the Challenge Cup, the local ruggers improved their season record to 7-12-2 with Saturday's lopsided decision. More than half of Park City's marks in the win column have come in the past two weeks, a bright wind-up to an otherwise undistinguished un-distinguished campaign in 1983. Saturday's affair was certainly cer-tainly predictable. The Ogden Club had only been practicing for two weeks and over half of their players were involved in the first rugby game of their lives. The enthusiasm of the visitors never waned, however. Ogden worked hard for its first try in club history, a movement which featured three switches in direction and at least ten passes. Ogden will be a good complement com-plement to the Mucker's schedule, as well as a plus to Wasatch Front rugby as a whole. With travel expense becoming a critical limiting factor in local rugby, the more clubs which organize in the relatively - concentrated concen-trated population center of Northern Utah, the better. The Muckers had three 1983 matches with out-of-state clubs which were adversely affected by the long distance involved. Ogden club founder Jeff Frazier anticipates the evolution of three distinct rugby clubs in his community: com-munity: the Ogden (adult) Club Side, a college team from Weber State, and a club composed of Hill Air Force Base personnel. "Just like in Colorado Springs," he added. |
