Show Slide slows belt route An earth slide has delayed construction of the new belt route retaining wall along the base of Masonic Hill. The 100-foot-long slide was triggered trig-gered by a cut in the base of the hill made during construction of the roadway, according to Director of Community Development Mike Vance. He said that the slide was not significant. Utah Department of Transportation Transporta-tion engineer Kenneth Adair said the slide comprises some 15,000 cubic yards of soil and rocks. The estimates for removal of the slide rubble are between $1 and $2 per cubic yard. Adair said the area must be "stabilized" before the retaining wall can be completed. He said the removal of the slide and stabilizing work could take up to two weeks. The hillside will have to be "cut in" somewhat, he said, and the wall will require some redesign. |
