Swartz to Be in Charge of Work Combatting Combat-ting White Plague in Northern Utah The new Ogden tuberculosis dlspen-sary dlspen-sary will swing open Its doors at 9 o''clock tomorrow, marking the advent of the Ogden board of health in an entirely new field and placing1 the department de-partment on an efficiency basis with the best health departments of the country for a city of Offden's size. The now department, which 13 expected ex-pected to accomplish much here in the fight against the great whito plague, has been been made possible I through the Utah Public Health association, as-sociation, under whose direction Miss, Ida Swartz department will work, andi J. Ray Ward, commissioner of public I Ward Co-operates When the Utah Public. Health association asso-ciation sought the Ogden field as n probable place in which to direct it? fight against tuberculosis in northern Utah, the association was given the immediate co-oporatlon of Mr. Ward, who offered space for the installation of tho tuberculosis dispensary in quarters occupied by the Ogdon board of health in the city. Mr. Ward's offer of-fer was immediately accepted and 4 largely through his efforts a decision was forthcoming and Ogden awarded the bureau. ... ' J" The aims and purpose, of the tuber-) culosis dispensary as outlined, are to wagp intensive .warfare against tho growth, and spread of, tuberculosis in Ogden and vicinity and to furnish free medical examination, aid and information infor-mation to persons who are -afflicted wltii the diseaso and . are without fl funds to provide the proper medical care and attention. A feature of tho work will bo in .the visits of Miss Swartz to various homes where the patients are in such - condition they are unable to leave their-beds. During the visits to Ogden homes, Miss SWartz will carry on u campaign j of education which is cxpepted to ac- sorriplish much in combatting the ,diseaso and curbing its spread. Miss, Swartz will be at the call oi .'J.l per-! sons who. seek aid or information and' will conduct examinations withourj charge in tho department dispensary. . 'It was announced yesterday by Miss! Swartz that the department will open tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock and will be open to the public every Mon-l Mon-l day. Wednesday and Friday of each j woek, between the hours of 0 o'clock 'and 12 o'clock. Persons who seek aid i in their homes may call the depart - ment at any time and arrange for a I visit of Miss Swartz. In announcing the opening of the new department, Mr. Ward has urged that physicians throughout the citv lond their co-operation by reporting to the bureau all cases of tuberculosis tuberculo-sis which they may discover. In this manner' ii complete ' record may bo kept by the city board of health and ! the conditions determined without ex- tensive surveys. j It was also made manifest by Mr. I Ward that tho co-operation of the t Ogdea public is necessary to make the 1 new department successful, not only through those suffering from the disease dis-ease asking for aid, but in others reporting re-porting cases which they may discover in their neighborhood. The department depart-ment is free to anyone who may seek advice or help in . the tuberculosis fight and persons are urged to take full advantage in order that the disease dis-ease may, quickly be stamped out from Ogdon. Miss Swartz is a woman of several yearg' experience In health work and for more than two years was with the British armies in France as a nurse at the battle front. She is a graduate gradu-ate of the Medico-Chlrurgical hospital of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia school of philanthropy. |
