Show Fishing limited for 75 opener this reservoir, be prepared to find limited parking space along the road. Most space is found at ends of the impoundment. Camping facilities and culinary water is unheard of in this area, so be prepared to rough it if you plan to stay overnight. Rainbow trout are this water's mainstay, and it will be stocked with cat-chable cat-chable fish prior to the ODener. PAROWAN CREEK - The status of this stream is yet unknown. It appears that the water condition will be turbid and roily for the opener; and, if so, 'fish will not be stocked for opening day. PINE LAKE - Rainbow cat-chables cat-chables are to be stocked for the opener. Holdover rainbow and brook trout are also in the lake. Some 3 and 4 pound fish are usually taken. Forest Service campgrounds will be open. A moderate crowd is expected. PINE VALLEY RESERVOIR -Despite its small size, Pine Valley Reservoir has traditionally been a popular fishing spot for the general season opener. Good fishing, scenic surroundings and excellent ex-cellent facilities provided by the U.S. Forest Service usually attract large crowds of people when fishing season opens. The reservoir is small but has been stocked with about 2,000 cat-chable cat-chable rainbow for the opener. Also, there is a native population of brook trout in the lake.; and they range in size from 5 to 8 inches. YANKEE MEADOW RESERVOIR - Fishermen can expect to find the road clear of snow and the water waiting on opening day. Parking space around this fishing water is plentiful; however, campers will find no piped water and camping facilities, for the most part, are nonexistent. Fishermen can expect to put both Eastern Brook trout and rainbow in the creel. Litter has been a terrific problem around this reservoir in the past. The public is asked to be considerate of the natural beauty of this area and please clean up alter themselves. nice fish with large browns, brooks and rainbows available. Pressure is expected to be light with people going to Koosharem Reservoir or Otter Creek Reservoir. OTTER CREEK RESERVOIR - Otter Creek Reservoir should provide very good fishing for the opening weekend. The fish should be averaging at least :,4 pound, plus a good number of 2 pound and larger fish are available. There is a lot of camping room along the west side of the reservoir, but im proved camping facilitiers are limited and found at the south end by the dam. A good boat launching ramp is located on the dam. Heavy pressure is expected. ex-pected. PANGUITCH CREEK -Rainbow catchables will be stocked for the opening. Browns are also in the creek. Fishing is expected to be good. A small Forest Service campground will be open. Heavy pressure is expected. ex-pected. PANGUITCH LAKE - As of mid-May, the lake was still forzen over. The fish range in size from two-thirds Dound to 2-j This year's fishing opene looks again to be a time to visi lakes and reservoirs in Utah. A number of rivers am smaller streams throughout tin state will be high, swift am muddy; and, therefore, man; will not be stocked. ASPEN MIRROR LAKE -Aspen Mirror Lake is still snowed in. It looks as though stocking will have to be done after the opening, unless there is a rapid snow and ice melt. Catchable rainbow will be stocked as the spring melt allows. When the lake does clear, fishing should be good. BAKER DAM RESERVOIR -Baker Dam Reservoir is a local favorite for the opening of the general fishing season and should provide a good opener. Several thousand catchable rainbow trout have been planted in the reservoir for the opener in addition to the large number of fingerling rainbow trout planted late last summer. This combination com-bination should provide good fishing for the sportsman on the May 3l opener. Camping facilities are limited at Baker Dam and there is no culinary water available. The boat launching facilities have deteriorated considerably, and it will be difficult to get very large boats onto the lake. r contribute to better success on it the reservoirs. The Division of Wildlife Resources implemented i a new stocking program on the e reservoirs and the effects of the 1 program may fill many creels 1 come opening morning. Access is i good, although the road from i Enterprise to the, reservoirs will . be rough and dusty. Camping is ; available and fresh water is present in the Honeycomb . Campground. Both the upper and ) lower reservoirs have been : stocked with several thousand - catchable rainbow trout in ad-; ad-; dition to the thousands of ad- vanced fingerling placed in the reservoirs last summer. All in I all, Enterprise reservoirs could provide some excellent fishing ' for the opener. KOLOB RESERVOIR - As of mid-May, access to the reservoir was by snowmobile only. With a good snow pack in the area, there should be good water for late summer fishing. Unless it opens fast, there will be no fish planted for the May 31 opener. However, some holdover rainbow and cutthroat should be available. Camping is limited on surrounding private ground, but the reservoir can handle small boats so a good time can be had at Kolob Reservoir. MAMMOTH CREEK - High runoff is expected on the opening at this water. Catchable rainbow will be stocked below the Mammoth Spring through the cabin area. The "Wild Trout" area downstream and the lower Mammoth will not be stocked. Much of the Mammoth Creek is private property and respect for this property is cautioned. MINERSVILLE RESERVOIR - A very good fishing opening is expected this season. A large crowd is expected-6,000 within the state park-on opening weekend. A good boat ramp and limited camping facilities are available at the state park. However, several access roads and camping sites are available on public lands around the lake. The lake contains only rainbow trout and size and weight are pounds. Fishing is expected to be very good. A large crowd is expected. Facilities may be limited. The campground will probably be closed due to construction. con-struction. Private camping ami lodging is available at the resorts. Boats, gas and groceries are available. The only road open to the lake will be from Panguitch. The trout are rainbow rain-bow with some albine rainbow and small cutthroat. PARAGONAH RESERVOIR -This fishing water is accessible now and will be for the opener if we do not receive precipitation immediately prior to May 31. There are a few spots in the road within a mile or a mile and one half from the reservoir that are certain trouble when wet, so cross your fingers and be prepared if you plan to drown your worms on this popular fishing water. When you reach DUCK CREEK - Duck Creek is still snowed in. It will not be stocked for the opening. Two to three feet of snow covers the small stream. It will be planted as soon as the snow melts to allow access. DUCK CREEK SPRING -Access is limited to small areas surrounding the lake. There is still plenty of snow around the shore. People wanting to fish Duck Creek Spring will probably be standing in the snow on May 31. This water will be stocked with catchable rainbow trout before the opener. Fishing should be good. ENTERPRISE RESERVOIRS (UPPER and LOWER) - The Upper and Lower Enterprise Reservoirs could prove to be good places to be when fishing opens on May 31. Both reservoirs have good water levels and boat launching will be good at the upper reservoir. Although the reservoirs are not full, they contain sufficient quantities of water to provide fishermen with plenty of shoreline and boating area. In fact, the lower water levels in the reservoirs may expected to range about 12 to 13 inches and a little over 1 pound. However, some large fish should be present for the lucky angler. NAVAJO LAKE - Navajo is still snowed in. There is two or ' three feet of snow on the ice, as well as on the surrounding area. It looks as though fish will have to be planted sometime after the May 31 opener when the lake is free of ice. Catchable rainbow trout will be stocked. Providing there is no winter loss, some holdover rainbow and brook trout will provide the angler with some fishing action in addition to the stocked rainbow catchables. Campground facilities are available on the south side of the lake. NEWCASTLE RESERVOIR -This fishing water will not be a desirable place to go for the fishing opener. The reservoir was drained last fall for construction con-struction on the dam. Fish being stocked this spring will be only fingerling so the angler shouldn't expect much until next fall or even next summer. OTTER CREEK - This small section of river contains some |
