Show Wallace Osborne to end 40-year teaching career " IK : WALLACE OSBORNE The completion of the 1974-75 school year also marks the completion of 40 years of teaching for Wallace W. Osborne. When Mr. Osborne retires at the end of this year he will leave behind him a trail of experiences and influences which can never be measured. His teaching career began in Milford in 1934-35 and he transferred tran-sferred to the Cedar Jr. High ' three years later (1937-38). At that time the faculty numbered about ten among which were L. C. Miles and Pratt Bethers. Mr. Osborne recalls that even though his degree was in Physical Education he taught every subject except Home economics during those first years. Born Sept. 5, 1909 at Miner-sville Miner-sville to Josiah and Lucy Murdock, he was educated at the little school house in Minersville and graduated from High School in a class of "8". While in High School he was a member of the over 30 years where he served as its electrician, plumber, furnace engineer, filter cleaner, bookkeeper, maintanance man, ticket seller, swimming I teacher and life guard. I His-has also been a familiar 1 face at all Southern Utah High School and College football and I basketball games. He was usually one of the referees. Mr. Osborne's physical stamina was evident as he continued to referee Jr. High Football games here in town. Even this year he has been able to continue running with the .young kids. A dedicated 100 percent Lion Club member, Boy Scout leader, Merit Badge Counselor, and active Church member (he is now serving as President of the Cedar Stake Sunday School) are still more evidences of his full life. He has also been a member of the Iron County Teachers Credit Union and a member of the Cedar City Volunteer Fire Dept. As a family man Mr. Osborne has-been devoted to his daughter Fonette. After the death of Myda he married the former Grace Smith of Beaver and has been a father to her four children and their families too. "Wallace will be sorely missed at the Cedar Jr. High School. His shoes will be hard to fill and it might well be an awesome responsibility for the man who must now try to do it." basketball team wnicn won un-All-State Championship in 1927 and went to the National Tournament Tour-nament in Chicago, Illinois. While attending the BAG (Branch Agricultural College) in Cedar he became an outstanding athlete under Coach Howard (Tuff) Linford and met and married Myda Robinson from Paragonah. Following his two years at BAC, he transferred to USU in Logan where he was also active in sports. Due to the depression it took him five years to complete his education in Forestry. However, he was unable to get a job in this field; so he again returned to college to earn a degree in Physical Education. Six different principals have served in the Jr. High during Mr. Osborne's teaching career. He did serve one year in the Armed Services; but has spent the rest of the time during the past 38 years guiding, influencing, and disciplining (via the paddle when deserved) the hundreds and hundreds of young boys who have passed through the Cedar School system.
