Prior to last year, Greg Smith, a graduating senior at Southern Utah State College, had no experience ex-perience in speech competition. Greg now has a shelf full of trophies won in competitive speech meets. Twelve of the trophies were picked up this year in five different speech events. Psychology is Greg's major at SUSC, but he plans a career in the Air Force alter earning his commission in the Southern Utah State Reserve Officer's Training Corps. In addition to speech competition, com-petition, Greg was a member of the SUSC football squad last fall. He is the son of Gerry and Marilyn Smith, (i()24 West Coolidge, Phoenix, Arizona. It took very little time for Greg to discover his love and aptitude for speech competition. He won three trophies in his first three meets. The trend continued throughout this season. His 12 trophies have come in persuasive speaking (at California State-Los Angeles and College of Eastern Utah), Oxford team debate (at Cal State-Los Angeles and Dixie College), one-man debate (at College of Eastern Utah), oral interpretation (at Long Beach State, Brigham Young University, and College of Eastern Utah), and expository speaking (at College of Eastern Utah and a meet hosted by Southern Utah State).
