Show LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Dear Editor: Knowing something of the history and the active involvement in-volvement of the Salt Lake Tribune, in discrediting Little League Baseball in Utah, it is understandable that practically no press coverage is given by the "Salt Lake Tribune" to Little League Raseball, which is the sponsoring organization for summer baseball programs in the Southern part of the state. But to allow this prejudice to follow these boys through their high school baseball is quite unfair. Saturday two fine high school baseball teams (products of Little League), traveled from Southern Utah to Provo (almost in the back door yard of The Salt Lake Tribune), to play for the State Class 2-A championship. It was a thrilling game, extending into 3 extra innings and ending in a 2-1 win for Cedar City. The game could have gone to either team. One would never want to see a more thrilling ball game. Yet, the Tribune carried not a single word about it. However, the coverage for the 3A and the 4A has been more than adequate. All their play-off games have been covered as well, but unless you were particularly interested or observant, you would not have known from the Tribune about the play-offs in the 2A division nor which teams were to play for the State Championship. There is nothing much we can do about the unfair press coverage the Tribune gives to Southern Utah in general, and specifically in baseball. I, for one, am taking the only action I know, letting the Tribune know how I feel, and thanking the Iron County Record for their untiring efforts to keep us informed. I would invite you to do something also to let the Tribune know that there are parts of Utah, South of the Point of the Mountain that is relatively unknown to them. A prejudiced father |
