WHITNEY Four vie for Coordinating Council posts Mrs. Norita Kay Sheehan is a candidate can-didate for the Central Committee of the Cedar City, Coordinating Council. She was born in Alton, Wyoming but soon moved to Salt Lake City where she obtained most of her education. She attended West High but graduated from Jordan High School in Sandy. She attended the University of Utah and has taken many classes at Southern Utah State College-since coming to Cedar City. She married William A. Sheehan, is the mother of four children and the grandmother of two. Mr. Sheehan is employed by the United States Forrest Service and worked on the Wasatch in the Salt Lake area before being transferred to the Dixie National Forest which brought them to Cedar City three years ago. In Salt Lake Mrs. Sheehan was active in CYO. ' (Catholic Youth Organization). She also taught Cataehism and has been very active in the "Right to Life" movement in Cedar City. In Salt Lake she was employed as a dental assistant and secretary. She was a member of the Wasatch Gem Society ' where she won regional recognition for her journalistic work on the bulletin. She is anxious to be of community service in Cedar City and reports that she really enjoys living here. Mr. James Cotts will be a candidate for election to the Central Committee of the Coordinating Council. He was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri and grew up in Holland, Michigan. He attended Hope College with an AB degree in Mathematics with a minor in Physics and German. He received an MS degree at New Mexico State. He taught at Brandon University in Manotoba, Canada for four years and came to Cedar City in 1970 to teach at Southern Utah State College where he is presently serving as Assistant Professor of Mathematics of statistics. He has served as basketball coach, and chairman and secretary of the faculty association ul Brandon U. He has served as faculty advisor of the physical science and Engineering Clubs, faculty advisor of the Interfaith Christian Fellowship at SUSC and as Vice President, President Elect of the SUSC Faculty Senate. He is interested in music and is a member of the Manning Halverson Oratorio Society. He is a member and active in the Community Presbyteitan 'Church.-"' " fie and his wife, Laura are the parents of three children. They have contributed in many ways to making Cedar City a better place in which to live. Kathryn H. Ipson is running for election for the Central Committee of the Cedar City Coordinating Council. She was born in Panguitch, and attended at-tended school there. She graduated from Panguitch High School and then attended LDS Business College. She married Doyl N. Ipson also of Panguitch. After a short time, he was called to serve a mission for his church so Kathryn moved to Cedar to attend SUSC. After Doyl returned, they both attended college here and graduated. Kathryn received the coveted Mildred Sargent Award. After graduation, she taught at North Elementary School here. The Ipsons bought their first home here, but were soon transferred to Southern California where they spent seven years, then to Logan for a year and then to Hawaii. "We loved every place that we lived," Kathryn said, "But we asked to return to Cedar City if there was an opening here. This is where we want to raise our three children," Kathryn said. She has served as a room mother for seven years and feels that Cedar has the best schools and community in the world. She loves music and art, outdoor sports, family and friends, and finds them all in abundance here. Dr. Richard B. Whitney will be a candidate for the Central Committee of the Cedar City Coordinating Council. He was born and raised in Parowan, Utah and attended school there. He-graduated He-graduated from Parowan High where he was involved in athletics and served as Student Body President. He attended Southern Utah State College in Cedar City and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City for three 'years. He obtained his professional schooling in Oregon and graduated with a O.D. degree as an Optomotrist. Dr. Whitney served a mission for his church in California where he served for six months in the mission presidency. He also served his country and spent two years in Korea. He lived in Salt Lake for ten years before conrng to Cedar City 2'- years ago to establish his office of Optometry. Op-tometry. He has been active in his church having served as Ward Clerk and in his Ward Bishopric. He expressed his pleasure at being back in Southern Utah to live. He is extremely interested in athletics and is looking forward to contributing to Community service here. |
