Show Ram Grapplers place Third at Beaver PAROWAN On Saturday, Dec. 3 the Parowan wrestling team traveled to Beaver for a tournament against Beaver, Milford and Panguitch. The Rams are headed by Larry Green and Tony Moss, team captains. This was the first match of the season for the Rams, so they went into the tourney not sure exactly what kind of team they had. Varsity Ram grapplers this year are: Bryan Mount at 98 pounds, Tim Fox at 105"' pounds, Larry Green at 112, Dave Hulet 119, Bill Moss 126, Bruce Evans 132, Todd Robinson 138, Richard 145, Gordon Gurr 155, Tony Moss 167, Rocky Patterson wrestles at heavyweight. Coach Scott Dubeck commented, "we went into the tournament strong at some weights and inexperienced inex-perienced in others. I was very pleased with the team as a whole, especially the less experienced wrestlers." The Rams picked up four first place medals at the meet : Tim Fox, Larry Green, Gorden Gurr and Tony Moss all captured their individual weights. The team placed third behind' Beaver, 168 points; Milford, 137; Parowan, 133'2 and Panguitch 90. The biggest surprise was having Tim Fox take home the medal at 105 pounds. Tony Moss had one of his best matches winning over a wrestler who placed second in state last year, 12-5. Assisting Coach Dubeck with the coaching chores is Craig White, a former state wrestling champ from PHS. Dubeck states that he feels White is the biggest help a coach could have and that he could not run the wrestling program without him. Parowan will have . a chance to get even with Beaver today, Thursday, when Beaver comes to Parowan for a dual match. The varsity matches will begin at 7:00 p.m., preceeded by J. V. matches at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the Ram wrestlers. Following is the 1977-78 Ram Wresting schedule: Dec. 8:: Beaver at Parowan. Dec. 10: Piute Tournament. Jan. 19: Parowan at Panguitch. Jan. 26: Parowan at Wayne. Feb. 2: Parowan at Kanab. Feb. 10, 11: Region at North Sevier. Feb. 16-18: State meet at Provo. |
