Show Have a Safe Christmas This holiday season can be one of the safest and happiest ever, according ac-cording to the Cedar City Fire Department, if a list of precautions is followed during the traditionally "high risk" month. "We want everyone to have a safe and merry Christmas," David Bentley, acting cheif, said. "Christmas time is always a high risk month for structural fires. We would like everyone to follow a list of recommendations:" - Use heavy extension cords in Christmas lighting. - Don't use too many connections con-nections from one outlet. - Don't burn gift wrappings in fireplaces. "There is always the chance of flash fire or having the wrappings go up the chimney and land on the roof while still bur ning," Bentley said. - Don't burn candles. -- "Think about smoke detectors as a present for your loved ones." -- Water your tree regularly. Remember: the best tree stands are those that are capable of holding water. -- Use low voltage Christmas lights. -- Don't set up the Christmas tree next to the fireplace. -- And, of course, always watch children around matches. "The Cedar City Fire Department Depart-ment wishes everyone in the area a happy holiday. We know the season will be even happier if people will think and plan safely," Bentley said. "Common sense is one of the keys to having a happy holiday season." |
