"Twnnmiimi "Best of Show" at State Fair awarded to Cedar City man The roll-top desk entered by the local man took about 170-290 hours to build and perfect, he said. It is constructed con-structed of oak and has antiquing techniques on the finish. All work was done in his personal shop at his home. Married to Joyce Marie Sorenson and father of one boy, Sorenson said the supervisor of the arts and crafts division was particularly par-ticularly pleased to make the award to a southern Utah person. He said he hoped to kindle a renewed interest in state fair activities from the south end of the state. Top honors in the Arts and Crafts Division at the recently concluded Utah State Fair went to local craftsman Jim Sorenson, 842 So. Cedar Knolls, as he entered his roll top desk. Sorenson said the desk, winner of the grand prize at the local Iron County Fair, was awarded a grand prize in the advanced wood working class of the Arts and Crafts Division. It was then determined to be "Best of Show" in the entire division. "Being awarded Best of Show really surprised me," Sorenson said, "especially if you could have seen what was up there. There were some really nice pieces." Sorenson, presently a supervisor of the custom shop at Cedar Products, said he would label himself a craftsman, "but I don't consider myself a professional." He said he won $50 and a ribbon for his efforts. |
