Kickoff in Thunderbird Thun-derbird Stadium is at 1:30 p.m. RADIO: KSUB Radio (490 AM) will broadcast the game with Art Challis doing the play-by-play. Pre-game show begins at 1:15. COACHES: SUSC - Tom Kingsford is in his 11th season with a 45-50-0 record. He is a graduate of University of Montana. Westminster - Allen Jacobs is in his seventh year as Parson head man. Last season the Parsons were 4-5-1 under the University of Utah graduate. LAST WEEK: SUSC nipped Adams State 5-3 in Cedar City while Westminster got by Colorado Mines 24-21 in Salt Lake City. Lewis 24, Westminster 6 Westminster 24, Mines 21 LAST YEAR: Westminster used a last second field goal by Jon Rogers to get by SU 10-7 in Cedar City. The T-Birds had led 7-0 early in the game but couldn't hold on. SERIES RECORD: SUSC is meeting Westminster for the 13th time. SUSC holds a 7-5 edge in the series but has lost the last three games 7-3 (1974), 35-14 (1975) and 10-7 (1976). The T-Birds had won four in a row until 1974, including a 23-6 win in Cedar City in 1973. SUSC TOP PLAYERS: John Lundstrom, T-Bird Linebacker, had 22 tackles against Adams State and on the season the T-Bird standout has 62 tackles to give him an average of 20.7 which ranks him number one in NAIA District 7. Gil Rodriguez, T-Bird Defensive Tackle, had 14 tackles against Adams State and on the year the T-Bird senior has 41 tackles and two quarterback sacks. Dave Castro, T-Bird Linebacker, had 12 tackles against Adams State. The junior has 43 tackles in three games to give him an average of 14.3 which ranks third in NAIA District 7. Mike Powell, T-Bird Running Back, ran for 71 yards and caught two passes for 26 yards against Adams State. The senior has gained 171 yards on 46 carries for the year plus he has returned five kickoffs for a 20.2 average. T-Bird Defense, ranks number one in RMAC and NAIA District 7 in total offense giving up 225.3 yards per game. Ranks number two in the RMAC and number three in District 7 in pass defense giving up only 65.0 yards a game. |
