Show Cowboys capture Jr. Football Crown After finishing the regular season deadlocked with identical records of four wins, no losses and a tie, the Cedar Theatre Cowboys and the Elks squared off Saturday for the Cedar City Junior Football League championship. The Cowboys came off with a 13 to 10 victory, but not without a struggle. It was a battle to the end and the Cowboys in the final pericxi of play led by a score of i:i to 8. They stopped the Elks on the one yard line and the Cowboys elected to take a safety by having the quarterback drop in the end zone. That gave the Elks two points and boosted the score to 13 to 10. The safety offered the Cowboys the opportunity of a free kick and they held off the Elks as they continued to challenge and drive for a possible score. Final outcome was not decided until the final gun with the Elks still threat-iit'iiing threat-iit'iiing in the contest. For the champion Cedar Theatre was led by Donald Adams who was the top ground gainer. For the Elks it was Hruce Amador who was tough to stop and the top ground gainer of the game. This week the Cedar Junior Football League will begin working with an all-star all-star team that hopefully will be able to participate with a team from the Ute League in the Salt Lake City area. Arrangements for the potential game have not yet been completed, however, as the L'te league has not been completed. Those in charge report an excellent season for the Cedar City Junior Football league and officers expressed ex-pressed gratitude to all who helped to make the regular season a success. |
