Show Cedar awarded EDA grant Cedar City has received word it has been granted $65,100 from the Economic Development Administration Ad-ministration for the construction of a fence around the Leigh Hill reservoir. The funds for the project are made available under provisions of the Public Works Act of 1977 to help build public facilities and create jobs in areas of high unemployment. The city was sponosred by the County Commission in making the application for the grant, City Manager Mike Embley said, but sent in the application on their own. The city now has 90 days to prepare the specifications to go for bid. The security fence w ill be eight feet high and encompass nearly 6,000 feet (5,966). Eight gates will be nart of the fenceline, three large 20 foot vehicle access gates and the remaining being for fast traffic. One "stumbling block" in the construction, con-struction, Embley indicated, was the requirement to have at least 10 percent of the work to be done by a "minority contractor." He said the city plans to meet with the EDA to work out a compromise on that regulation. Also in the September 27 notice of grants awarded, the EDA stated Iron County will receive $38,000 to reinforce culverts in recently constructed roads in the county, and $15,850 for the upgrading of fire alarm systems at Valley View Medical Center Earlier the EDA announced Brian Head will receive $77,000 to upgrade their water systems. |
