Show WIN FOUR FIRSTS Redmen Win 2nd in Region Meet Five Cedar City High School trackmen qualified for entry Into In-to the State Class B meet to be staged at the U of U stadium Saturday, May 9, In competition at the Region Ten meet held at Milford last Saturday. The Redmen. coached by Hal Norton, took second place honors, hon-ors, behind the Millard Eagles. Millard won the team championship champion-ship for the region, garning 96V4 points. Redmen were In second place with 60 points followed by Milford with 42'4; Beaver. 35; Delta. 35i; Dixie 16',; Kanab 9V, and Hurricane 9. Millard picked up seven first places led by Larry Schlappi. who won two first places and tied for a third first place. I Gary Anderson led the Red-men, Red-men, winning two first places, a second and anchoring the win-1 ning 880 yard relay team. J Cedar won four first places. An-1 derson took the 100 ami 220 yard dashes, Danny Lindsay, only a sophomore, came through with a I first In the 180 yard low hurdles and the 880 yard relay team tool i honors in that event. I Sprints accounted for practlc-illy practlc-illy all of the Redmen points. They won first, second and third in the 100 yard dash and first and second In the 220 yard dash. I A brother combination took first and second In roth. Gary took first in the two dashes and Larry Anderson, a Junior and younger brother of Gary, took second place in both events. Ron Prince picked up third in the 100 yard dash and Roger Halterman placed fourth In the 220 yard dash. Only the top three places, how-'ever, how-'ever, qualify for entry into the state meet Lindsay, Larry Anderson, Ander-son, Prince and Garry Anderson make up the 880 yard relay team. Only other Redman qualifying for participation in the state meet was Halterman, who placed plac-ed third in the 410 yard run. G. Anderson also qualified in the broad Jump, placing second behind Schlappi of Millard. Ron Prince picked up a fifth place In the shot put; Francis Evins placed fourth in the discus dis-cus and the medley relay team took fourth place to help boost the Redmen into second place team honors. |
