Isaacson, General Authorities Au-thorities of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were honored at a luncheon held in the campus of the College of Southern Utah Friday, March 27. 1 Director Royden C. Braithwaite I hosted the event. Both of the church leaders were on their way to a stake conference in St. George. Dr. Braithwaite and other staff members reported on recent activities acti-vities involving Indian affairs on the campus. Elder Kimball heads Indian Affairs for the LDS church. It was reported that a recent Indian basketball tournament tourna-ment was held in the CSU Field-house Field-house which attracted eight teams from a wide area of southern south-ern Utah, Arizona and Nevada. Staff members George Barrus and Theron Ashcroft recently conferred at Window Rock, Ariz., with representatives of the Navajo Nava-jo Tribal Council about the possibility pos-sibility of establishing specialized special-ized training programs for young Navajo college students. At the conclusion of their visit Elder Kimball was presented with a pair of hand-made Indian gloves beaded with the CSU Thunderbird emblem. This is a tradition established by the Director Di-rector to honor special guests and as an invitation to those guests to return to the campus and "work" with the students in the beautification of the campus and their lives. Elder Isaacson had received his gloves on a previous previ-ous visit. Director Braithwaite pointed out that the beautiful gloves were the work of a master Indian craftsman Mrs. Virginia George of Cedar City. |
