Show Teen Council Hears Juvenile Officer On Tobacco Problem Recently, members of the Teen Council interviewed Mr. Erving Peterson, local Juvenile probation officer. He sttpd that the Juvenile Juve-nile court was receiving poor support sup-port from parents and businesses in our community. Mr. Peterson said that the juvenile court handles han-dles adults very severely when they have any part in helping teens violate state laws. If the store manners would only realize rea-lize what the penalty is for selling sell-ing tobacco to Juveniles they would stop selling it to them. Mr. Peterson also stated that most parents, when told their young son or daughter Is smoking, smok-ing, don't realize or don't want to believe that he or she has taken up this habit. Some parents par-ents give their teenagers tobacco and are completely ignorant of the problems that result from it. Some of these problems are theft, truancy and drinking. Peterson Indicates that smoking is a real problem among teenagers in our community and urges the parents par-ents to support the luvrnile court in helping the young people to see the dangers that result from smoking. |
