Show Clean-up Drive Readied In Parowan City During the past week over 80 block captains and wives willingly will-ingly pledged their best efforts toward helping their friends and neighbors achieve clean and attractive at-tractive surroundings in Parowan City's spring clean-up campaign which will get under way this coming week with a proclamation proclama-tion issued by Mayor Osmer K. Nielsen to this efect appearing in this paper. Each captain will contact all home owners on his block and together they will decide how to best handle their specific cleanup clean-up and beautification problem, according to City Beautification co-chairmen, Mrs. Mary O. Top-ham Top-ham and .Mrs. Florence Mitchell. It is suggested that the cleanup clean-up begin on property fronts, sidewalks and street edges. Then owners could gradually work to the back of their lot to cope with the weeds and oVad trees problem. The biggest headache is the great number of vacant lots, where fences are in disrepair and weeds are left year after year, not only creating a fire hazard, but seeding their neigh bor s gardens. An appeal is made to owners of such "down at the heel" situations, situ-ations, to clean-up their property. Such improvement would give all of us a big lift and enhance the value of such holdings, whether they are in town or along the highway approaches. As two of your chairmen visited visit-ed each blov'k it was most heartening heart-ening to see the many neat and beautifully lartdscaped grounds in "our town." They would like to mention a few each week, not only to compliment the owner, but to give others some new Ideas as they drive around the city. U) Note the Dyle Adams residence resi-dence where fence-screening is attractively used to enhance the landscaping and conceal the "back-lot" view. (2) The Hattie Harris grounds kept neat as a pin by her own efforts. (3) TheOrtell Rasmussen home where she recently exchanged an expanse of weeds and rubbish for a bright new lawn. She does her own pruning and fills clever planters with bright summer flowers. (4) Another "do-it-yourself" lady, who deserves a bouquet is Olive M. Miicheii. Her grounds and cleverly arranged patio are really Inspiring with a riot of flowers, tables and shady umbrellas. um-brellas. This Is a "must" to see next summer. To conclude this report, the chairmen mention our wonderful boys and girls, in both the elementary ele-mentary and high schools, who are expressing their eagerness to help in the beautification campaign. Their ideas and help will be of great Interest to the readers of this paper and to all who live In the area. |
