Gardner Announces His Candidacy for State Legislature "Through my experience in two sessions of the State Legislature and two and one-half years as Mayor of Cedar City, I have seen a need for better state legislature in behalf of the rural areas and particularly southern Utah." Mayor Kumen Gardner issued this statement Tuesday in announcing an-nouncing his candidacy for the Utah State House of Representatives. Representa-tives. Currently serving as mayor of Cedar City, he previously served two two-year terms in the house of representatives from 1959 through 1962. He listed two reasons why he was seeking the position. First, was his desire to continue to work on a project undertaken while he was serving In the legislature legis-lature and second, the opportunity opportu-nity to work for the needs of the rural areas based on hiJ experience experi-ence of needs while in the Mayorship. May-orship. In addition Gardner had previously previ-ously served a two year term on the Cedar City Council. He is at the present time In his third year as a member of the National Advisory council of the Rureau of Land Management, Dept. of the Interior, and has served since 1941 as a member of the BLM District 4 advisory board. The candidate is a former president pre-sident of the Lions Club and he served for many years as a member mem-ber of the Stake presidency of the Cedar Stake. Born and raised here he attended at-tended Cedar City schools and also attended the Utah State University at Logan.
