Show Guest Director Selected for Third Annual Utah Shakespearean Festival This Summer Thomas B. Markus of the Department De-partment of Speech and Drama at the University of California, Santa Barbara CampuarJta been announced as a guest director for the Third Annual Utah Shakespearean Shake-spearean Festival at College of Southern Utah. He will direct 'Twelfth Night" which will be shown in nightly rotation with "Macbeth" and "Midsummer Night's Dream" July 9 through 25. Mr. Markus received a B A. frcm Pcmcr. Co!!?"? vh?re h? appeared In "My Three Angels," "Dirty Hands" and 'The Young Elizabeth." He took his M. F .A. and Ph. D. degrees at Tulane University where he had roles in "Vol pone," "Twelfth Night," "Skin of Our Teeth," "Ghosts," and a number of other well-known well-known plays. While at Tulane he directed "Waiting for Godot," 'The Stranger" and "The Cradle Song." He spent a summer at the Oregon Ore-gon Shakespearean Festival and acted with the Dunes Summer Playhouse in Michigan City, Ind. While serving in France with the United States Army Special Services, Mr. Markus appeared in I ZTT 1 S j THOMAS B. MARKUS "Don Juan in Hell" for which he received a Best Actor Award. He also had roles in "The Great Sebastians," 'Thieve's Carnival" and "The Solid Gold Cadillac." During his term in the service he directed "Janus" and "Krapp's Last Tape." At Santa Barbara he has directed di-rected "The Maids" and 'The Queen and the Rebels." He has also acted in Rod Alexander's production of "Much Ado About Nothing." In announcing Mr. Markus' acceptance ac-ceptance of the Festival assignment assign-ment Fred C. Adams, Festival Director, said that he would be "a valuable and Inspirational addition ad-dition to the Festival Company." Mr. Markus will arrive at CSU in June to begin preparation for the Festival opening. |
