Show March Storms Aid Water Content On Snow Courses Storms during the month of March have failed to bring water reserves up to normal a report of a survey taken April 1, indicates. indi-cates. Snow course in Cedar Canyon and in Parowan Canyons indica that water content is still below average, but higher than at the same time in 19C3. The survey was conducted by the Soil Conservation Service with the assistance of the Forest Service and the National Park Service. Following is a run down of the survey results: Cedar Breaks: The April 1 survey sur-vey found 42 inches of snow containing con-taining 10.1 inches of water. The long-time average for the course is 24 inches of moisture on April 1. In 1963 there was 37 inches of snow with 9.5 inches of moisture and in 1962 the course contained S5 inches of snow with a total of 33.1 inches of water. Midway Valley: Snow course measured 2 iticht-s in depth with a water content of 12.6 inches. Long-time average of water content con-tent is 25.2 inches, in 1963 the course had 36 inches of snow with 8.7 water content and In 1962 the snow depth was 87 inches in-ches with 33 inches of water. Webster Flat: Course contained 39 inches of snow with 11.5 water content. Average is 18.1 water. In 1963 the course had only one inch of snow with .4 of water. Average for the course Is 7.3 water content for April 1. Yankee Reservoir: Snow depth was 47 inches compared to 21 In 1963 and 45 in 1962. Water content con-tent was 10.1 this year compared to 5.4 in 1963, 13.5 In 1962. Aver-age Aver-age water content is 11 Inches. Ed Ward Flat: snow pack was 40 inches deep with 8.2 water content. Average for the course is 7.9 Inches of water, which is slightly below this year's level. In 1963 the course had eight inches in-ches of snow with 2.4 water and in 1962 snow depth was just 30 inches, but it contained 11.7 inches in-ches of water. In Cedar City total participation participa-tion for the month of March was recorded at the Airport at .98 of an inch. March came in like a Hon but went out like a lamb. Temperature variance was high during the month with a daytime day-time low of Just 27 degrees recorded re-corded on the 3rd. The final day of the month was by far the I warmest at 70 degrees. Lowest nighttime temperature was 3 de- grees on March 3 followed by 6 j degrees on March 6. Highest nighttime temperature was 45 j degrees recorded March 30. |
