Show UofUChoirYill Perform Thursday at H.S. The a Cappella choir from the University of Utah will perform in Cedar City Thursday night In the Cedar City High School Auditorium. Audi-torium. The concert is scheduled for 8:15 p. m. The choir, which is under the direction of Dr. Newell B. Weight, is making its first trip to southern Utah. An Interesting and varied program pro-gram is planned for Thursday night. Selections include two choruses from "Catull Carmina" by Carl Orff, "Yonder, Yonder," a Russian folk melody ;"Tenebrae Factae Sunt" by Ingegrerl; two double chorus numbers and 'The Lord Is My Shepard" by Ralph Sheffield who Is a member of the choir. The University of Utah has had a long tradition of choral music which has included chorus participation parti-cipation with the Utah Symphony Orchestra each fall in a major work. Last year "Samson" an oratorio by Handel, was performed per-formed and recorded, and again this year the Utah Symphony and the combined choruses of the University Joined together for the greatest undertaking in their history, his-tory, the performance and recording record-ing of Mahler's Symphony No. 8, often referred to as the "Symphony "Sympho-ny of a Thousand" because of its tremendous personnel. It has only be;n in the past two years that the University has been able to boost of an a Cappella Cap-pella choir. Dr. Newell B. Weight joined the faculty of the University Univer-sity of Utah in the fall of 1962. This distinguished choral director is widely respected throughout the state and nation for his work v.'itn choral music and as an adjudicator ad-judicator and clinician at music festivals and workshops. |
