Show AS I SEE IT I become very amused when I hear people talk about who is going to be subsidized. It seems that there aren't many who realize real-ize what subsidizing Is. You know that our secretary of Agriculture Is howling about the great farm Urdus' that we the tax payers are paying for. What they don't tell you, however, is how the high price for labor has caused the high cost of steel, automobiles, automo-biles, and other manufactured articles such as farm machinery which has taken terrific price raise. Do you realize that the cost of Government work and employees has sky-rocketed and that the tax payers are paying for the Increase. All the Agriculture Agricul-ture department employee's wages were raised, and I do know that we have a surplus of them that the tax payers are also paying for. Suppose" this squabble squab-ble on how the Government Is going to help the farmer and livestock people, which we don't have enough of, should turn and that the prices go up 4 or 5 hundred per cent; Just who Is going to subsidize It then? As I see It, the Eisenhower and Benson administration have fulfilled ful-filled the promises that they made in 1952, because they sure have cheapened commodities. Do you know that the farm and livestock people have subsidized the consuming nation to the tune of from ten to twelve billion dollars loss a year? Yet our Secretary Benson , doesn't men-tlon men-tlon it I'm sure that if Secretary Benson and the Agriculture De-partment De-partment wanted to be fair they would put a floor under the farm products, Jlke labor and Industry have. Instead of bringing commodities com-modities in from foriegn lands to further demoralize our already over-burdened surplus. If something some-thing Isn't done soon our great national economy is going to be threatened. Clarence Laxnereaux |
