Show Track, Baseball Call Made At Cedar High The Cedar City Redmen, defending de-fending state class B champlans in track and field have been hard at work this past week in preparation prep-aration for another season. Coach tllen Jackson indicated that although al-though this season he has no aspirations as to the state title, or the region, for that matter, nevertheless, he has a number of boys who are out for the spring sport. From all indications he will be best in the quarter mile this sea-! son with the possibility of fielding field-ing a fine mile-rejay team. Lee Sherratt, Dayne Gardner and Bob Clark, are three quarter milers hack this year that will make it plenty tough in that race. Coach Jackson indicated that he must pick up possibly a sophomore sopho-more to complete the mile relay team. He is still looking for the fourth man. j Kenneth Griener may be a dark horse for Coach Jackson. A sprint mm, a lot will depend on how Griener shapes up between be-tween now and the track and fie.'d meets which will get under un-der way beginning April 14 with the Dixie Invitational. Coach Jackson is weak this year in the field events with no prospects at the present time for any outstanding boys in any of these events. The baseball team on the other oth-er hand, is looking forward to a very successful season with Coach Ray Englestead in charge. Virtually all of last year's squad will be back, and they surprised a number of teams in the area last season. One of the interesting interest-ing factors here Is the Inf.'ux of boys who started baseball with the Little and Pony league organizations organ-izations in Cedar City. A host of sophomore who first started in that program turned out this snrlne including Travis Nelson, , Neil Petty. Art Prvor. Alex Rol-lo. Rol-lo. Leo Larson. John Qulnn plus others. Jon Isom. Michael Frame and Frank Knell all back from ,'ast year will handle a good share of th mound duties for I the Redmen this season. The Redmen baseball schedule ' opens up on April 12 with a gam in Cedar City with the Huirlcane Tigers. The remaining home games puts Kanab in Cedar or April 10 and Dixie at Cedar or April 2. All three fall on Thurs ' day. The great trouble with the! I school of experience is that the course is so long that the grad-l 1 uates are too old to go to work, i |
