Show South Utah Promo tors Hold Session Over 100 promoters of southern south-ern Utah representing Chambers of Commerce, city governments and interested citizens mei i;i Kanab Friday evening in an attempt at-tempt to boost the area in a cooperative way. At the meeting three proposals were adopted by the body. Represented at the meeting were cities and towns on U. S. Highway 91 from Cedar City on south, and a large number of the communities from Panguitch on south on Highway 89, Including Fredonia, Ariz. The body adopted a resolution to promote an all-weather road from Hurricane to Fredonia, Arizona, Ari-zona, through Pipe Spring and around Zlon National Park. The road In years past proposed as a truck route, received additional backing at the meeting when it was pointed out that trucking to the Glen Canyon Dam site could TfUt be -touted over Highway 15 through "1- Dam Sit Road A second endorsement was given by the representative group of a proposed road from Kanab to the Glen Canyon dam site. This was opposed by Panguitch but it was stipulated that regardless regard-less of the Initial road construction construc-tion it is apparent that through the efforts of both the Garfield and Kane county commissioners, both routes would eventually be opened Into the area. A third endorsement was given to the proposed change of the number of a U. S. highway from Grand Junction, Colo, to Las Ve-as, Ve-as, Nev. This proposed route has been suggested and studied for some time, but as far as can be determined it is the first time that a stamp of approval of all communities on the area has been given to the route. The route which was accepted and endorsed by the gToup was from Grand Junction to Price, through Salina Canyon to Richfield, Marysvale and Clrclevllle, then across Bone Hollow to Highway 91, then south through Cedar City and St. George into Arizona and Nevada. Representatives' from the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce at the meeting were Elden Yergensen, Yergen-sen, president; Eldon Schmutz, vice president, and Browning Piatt, board member, and on the road committee of the Chamber of Commerce. A committee was selected to represent the group until such time that it is felt necessary to call all the representatives together to-gether again. |
