Show PL rp3 Second Graders View Proceedings At CSU Valley Farm Students of Virginia Bauer's seoond grade at the East Elementary Ele-mentary school recently made a visit to the College of Southern Utah VaJley Farm in relation to a unit of study worked out by student teacher Florence Matthews. Mat-thews. Principal Thomas J. Ab-planalp Ab-planalp and the room mothers, Mrs. Arlo Carter and Mrs. Merrill Mer-rill Howell, accompanied the group and furnished transportation. transporta-tion. The boys and girls were given 'some first hand experience with! I sheep shearing when Professor I Darrell H. Matthews gave them a demonstration. The children were shown the main sheep herd which had recently been sheared. shear-ed. They visited the "hospital" where the ewes and new lambs are kept. Some of the care of the Lambs and the orphaned lambs was explained by Mr. Matthews. Some of the children in the group who had never fed dogie lambs I gave them bottles of milk. This group also gained information I about the other sheep, the beef cattle, horses and other animals on the farm. This class of second graders were already Interested In many of the animals they saw because of a previous trip to the Southern South-ern Utah Livestock Show. The boys and girls made many Interesting Inter-esting comments during their farm trip. Some new things to learn more about in their unit study were found. This class felt that Cedar City has many interesting inter-esting areas to investigate. |
