Show Parks Prepare For Big Easter Opening The national parks' and monuments monu-ments of southern Utah are preparing pre-paring to accommodate Easter visitors. Superintendent Paul R. Franke announced today that all employees are , rushing spring work to open all facilities, campgrounds, camp-grounds, picnic grounds and the trails. In spite of the rarly appearance ap-pearance of the spring vacation there are on hand many notices of the expected arrival of Individuals, Indi-viduals, groups and tours from Utah, Nevada, California and also al-so from the midwest. The superintendent super-intendent stated that weather alone may influence the establishment estab-lishment of new visitor records, a aU nnnroAoh roads are free of snow and in good condition. Zion National Park, now enjoying enjoy-ing warm nights and sunny days, should be presenting a particularly particu-larly pleasing sight. Fruit trees are in bloom In the Virgin River Riv-er valley. In Zlon Canyon the grass is green and cottonwoods are putting out green leaves. Two new self-guiding nature trails have been developed. The weeping weep-ing Rock trail has at Its approach ap-proach a box containing booklets' book-lets' describing natural features Identified by numbered stakes ajong the trail. A similar installation instal-lation has been made for the Canyon Overlook trail, which takes off from the parking area1 Just east of the Mt. Carmel Tunnel. Tun-nel. This is the earliest opening date for the rim road on record. Owing to the high elevation only picnicking pic-nicking Is advised. A number of trails into the formation are ready for the visitors. Viewpoints now open to the public are Sunset, Sun-set, Fairyland, Bryce Point, Inspiration, In-spiration, Paria, Far View and Natural Bridge. Pipe Spring National Monument, Monu-ment, Just across the Arizona bcr-der, bcr-der, will have on display the Old Fort and its pioneer furnishings. furnish-ings. Picnic grounds will be ready rea-dy for the visitor. Cedar Breaks National Monument Monu-ment is still covered by a six foot deep blanket of snow and wlU not be open for Easter. |
