Show Study Made of Reno Access Route Via Southern Nevada- A possible new route to Reno, Nev., through the lower portion of the state of Nevada, has been under study by the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce and from information received from the Department of Highways of that state, it may not be long before the new route is realized, according accord-ing to Elden Yergensen, president of the chamber. The new route would cut out the long trek north to Ely from the Junction of U. S. 93 and Utah Highway 56 between Pioehe and Callente. It is proposed that traffic traf-fic could be sent out on the proposed pro-posed new road which will begin construction this spring, directly west from Caliente and connect with U. S. Highway 6 at Warm Springs, which is also consldera-bjy consldera-bjy south of the Ely route. U. S. 6 meets U. S. 95 at Tonopah and the two merge at that point and continue into Reno. Not only would It be more feasible fea-sible for residents of this area to move into Reno and on to the coast, but it would also make it more feasible for tourists traveling travel-ing U. S. Highway 95 to cross over into Utah via Utah 56 and into our parks area, Yergensen pointed out. This project will not be completed com-pleted in the immediate future, however. According To word received re-ceived from the Nevada highway department, onjy two stretches of the highway from Caliente to Warm Springs have been contemplated. con-templated. Twenty-five miles of highway is presently under construction con-struction on the east end of Warm Springs' wirh an additional addition-al 25 miles to be constructed on the west end of Hiko later this year. That would leave a stretch of roughly 40 miles between the two that is yet to be Improved. |
