Show ' School District Representatives Seek Monies Representatives cf School Districts Dis-tricts of the Soul hern Utah area, meeting with directors of the Utah- Education Association In Cedar City Friday, voiced the opinion that there is a definite need, for more non-property tax sources to raise additional money for school purposes. The meeting was the second of several to bo conducted by the UEA board of directors as a guide in establishing establish-ing its program to be presented to the legislature at Its next session. ses-sion. Representatives of North Sanpete, San-pete, South Sanpete, Millard. Beaver, Iron, Washington, Kane, Garfield, Sevier, Piute and Wayne school districts attended the session ses-sion conducted by Allan M. West. UEA executive secretary. According to Mr. West It was j the concensus of opinion that, , more funds must come from the state government if the districts represented are to provide pupils an education equal to that available avail-able in other districts. Of especial concern, the representatives fc.'t, is to obtain additional finances in order to compete with other, Utah districts l:i the ability toj hire teachers. It was the general opinion that because most boards of education , in the area have pushed the pro-, perty tax to Its reasonable limit,, that it would be almost Impossible Impos-sible to assess higher local taxes , as a means of obtaining needed, additional funds. |
