Show Opportunity in Recreation For years the need for mountain summer recreation facilities has. been felt in Cedar City, and from time to time proposals have been advanced for- acquiring and developing Wood's ranch for this purpose. The area of the ranch, homesteaded 50 years or so ago, offers ideal recreation rec-reation opportunities, and is the best possible site in the entire mountain area for such development. The ranch, including about 40 acres, is located on the 1 Cedar-Long Valley road, which means that it can be reached reach-ed over an oil surfaced park-approach highway. It is only about 15 minutes drive from Cedar City, and yet is situated sit-uated in the heart of the mountain area. It has flat meadow mead-ow lands ideal for game areas, timbered areas ideal for fricnic camp sites, offers great possibilities for the location of summer homes for various youth camps such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and MIA organizations, has plenty of water for proper maintenance, and many other features that make for unlimited development of recreation facilities. facili-ties. All of this has long been recognized by those interested in developing such a facility for Cedar City residents, and some attempts have been made to acquire the property in order to preserve the site for this purpose. However, the property has not been for sale and it has been impossible to proceed with such a plan. Now, however, the property is for sale, and it offers so many possibilities that it will undoubtedly not look for buyers, and unless the people of Cedar City act promptly the opportunity of developing the much needed recreation area will be lost forever. There is no other site in the mountain area that offers so many advantages for this ! type of development, and it would be a shameful loss of opportunity of the city or the organizations within the city to let this opportunity slip by unheeded. . - |
