Show WIND STORM RAISES HAVOC IN CEDAR TUESDA Y A dust storm, accompanied by winds reaching as high at 52 miles per hour at approximately 7:30 a. m. Tuesday, April 26, swept over Cedar City and left a path of minor destruction in its wake. In the afternoon hours the winds subsided and gave way to snow, in one of the most unusual, un-usual, and most unpleasant days of the current year. Windows in two business houses in Cedar City were caved In along with several smaller windows at the College of Southern South-ern Utah. A l?rge plate glass window at Mode O'Day Frock shop on Harding Ave. was pushed push-ed in spreading ' glass throughout through-out the shop. At Trl-State Motors Mot-ors a large pane on the non-exposed side of the showroom was sucked out of place and shattered shatter-ed on the concrete.. Mammoth trees throughout the city were uprooted and limbs from practically all trees in the area were torn off. At approximately 11:30 a. m. a large tree on Main Street was split in two and traffic on Highway High-way 91 was temporarily confined to one-way while city workers moved the debils. in addition to the unusual fetes of force displayed by the wind housewives of the area were harassed har-assed with the dust which seeped seep-ed through every conceivable crack in most homes. I Considerable damage to neon signs in the city was also report-The report-The mammoth sign at Sullivan's Cafe on South Main was practically prac-tically torn from the building. It was tipped to about a 45 degree de-gree angle and put out of operation. opera-tion. Mill HI ll..in.,...l.l ,.,.,.! ., This large tree near the intersection of 200 North and 200 West Streets fell Tuesday Tues-day at about 7 a. m. when wind gusts up to 52 miles per hour struck in Cedar City. The diameter of this tree was approximately approxi-mately two feet and as it toppled it brought roots sod and highway mulch up with it. , |
