Show Friends and Relatives Fill Chapel For Mitchell Services With the Third ward chapel filled almost to capacity with friends and members of the family fam-ily from here and surrounding communities, funeral services were held Monday at 2 p. m. for William Cooke " Mitchell, S3, prominent church and community communi-ty leader in Parowan. Mr. Mitchell Mitch-ell died at the home of a son, J. Harold Mitchell, here last Friday evening of causes incident to age. The services were conducted by Lyle Evans, counselor In the Parowan Par-owan Third ward bishopric, with Mrs. Itha Mortensen playing the organ prelude and post Rule. Speakers at the services were Arthur Ar-thur Joseph, Wm. R. Palmer and Oscar J. Hulet with closing remarks re-marks by Elder Evans. The invocation was offered by Pres. W. Clair Rowley, the benediction bene-diction by D. Watson Adams and at the city cemetery the grave was dedicated by J, Clayton Mitchell, brother of the deceased. Musical numbers were: the opening and closing numbers by the ward choir, "Though Deepening Deepen-ing Trials" and "Oh My Father'' with Ivan Decker directing and with Mrs. Mary Lyman at the piano and Miss Deon Robinson at the organ; a song "The Harvest Har-vest Time" by a mixed quartet consisting of Mrs. Mary O. Top-ham, Top-ham, Mrs. Golda Guymon, Mrs. Retta Decker, Mrs. Berta Burton, E. Ray Lyman, Verl Taylor, Ivan Decker and Howard Ward; two special request numbers, "Home on the Range" by Mr. Lyman, Mr. Taylor and Mr. Decker, and a vocal solo, "Belle Mahone" by Bart Mitchell, accompanied by his sister Mrs. Marie Morrisev. both of Salt Lake City. Mr. Mitchell was born in Pare wan July 4. 1869 a son of William Cooke and Mary Ann Holmes Mitchell, and lived here his entire en-tire life. He married Laurette Or-ton. Or-ton. April 10, 1889 at Parowan, with the marriage later solemnized solem-nized in the St. George temple. She died Oct. 23, 1924. He mar-tied mar-tied Dorothy Louise Hansen. Jan. 18, 1927, in the Salt Lake Temple, Tem-ple, and she died in 1938. In 1940 he married Mary Jane Adams in the St. George Temple. She died in 1947. Mr. Mitchell had been a member mem-ber of the high priests quorum of the L D S church for 46 years and served in many offices in the ward. He was a councilor in the M. I. A. at the age of 15, served as stake Sunday School superintendent superin-tendent and as a counselor in the ward bishopric. He was chairman of the stake genealogical committee, com-mittee, was group leader of the high priests quorum and served a two-year mission at the St. George temple. He was a prominent farmer and livestock man of the community, commu-nity, served as a city councilman council-man and in other civic offices. He is survived by nine sons and daughters as follows: J. Harold Har-old Mitchell, Karl O. Mitchell, Parowan; Dr. Albert O. Mitchell, Mrs. Belle . Taggart, Mrs. Ada Llndsley, and Kathleen Mitchell, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Marian Tol-ton, Tol-ton, Beaver; Mrs. Josephine Nee-ley, Nee-ley, Spanish Fork, and Mrs. Laura Gardner, Cedar City; 29 grandchildren and 27 greatgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: George A. and J. Clayton Mitchell. Salt Lake City; Mrs. Mable A. Warren, Parowan and Mrs. Nellie Mortensen. Morten-sen. Logan. |
