The Broncos trimmed the Rebels by a score of 67 to 50 in a game played In the B A C memorial fiekthouse, the defeat wiping out the last hope the. Dixie team had of overtaking the powerful Bron-o Bron-o squad. In the other game of the week Ihe Carbon Eagles pulled the Snow Badgers down into the cellar cel-lar with them, trimming Coach ' ' Jim-Williams' team 45 to 34 in ;i gme played at Price. The margin mar-gin erf victory was greater than the rcore would indicate, since Carbon scored 19 field goals while the best Snow could do was Dine. Snow took 34 free throws and converted 16 times. Carbon only took 13 and counted sevee points from the foul line. Wwn eight wins and one loss, and three games left to play the Broncos cannot be touched by any of the other three teams. Dixie, the second place team, has three more games to play, and a .clean sweep of these three games -would five the -tebrls only seven -wins. The best ihst oilier Snow or I'irtfon can possibly muster is six wins for the season. The chips were d; 'n Fiiday night with the Broncos In a position posi-tion to clinch the title and with the Rebels needing to win every remaining game to get the title. But with the chips down Coach Cleo Petty's Bronco squad was just too good for the scrappy Dixie five. With the Dixie players giving everything they had for a victory and the Broncos a little over-anxious the Rebels made a game of it for one quarter. Lee Atkin scored first for Dixie, but Don Marshall tied it up. Gordon Sprague shot Dixie into the lead 4-2 but Teddy Smith knotted the score. Then Mel Montgomery, hooked in two field goals and Dixie held an 8-4 margin. Marshall Mar-shall got a field goal and Smith two charity tosses to tie it up again. Dudley Rowley made one of two free throws, but Gooney Adams evened It up when he got a free throw for his first score of the game. Smith and Adams added quick two pointers to put B A C Into the lead for the first time, 13 to 9. Clay Nielson connected con-nected to close the gap to 13-11, and before the quarter ended Adams and Nielson each added foul pitches to make the score read 14 to 12 in favor of the Broncos. Bron-cos. As the second quarter opened the Broncos really hit their stride. Adams hit for a two pointed, Smith added two quick ones, and a free throw, and Adams and Reese Naegle connected from the field to run the B A C score to 25 points, while the best Dixie could do was add one free throw by Montgomery. Gordon Sprague then hit from the field but Smith matched it. Montgomery scored but Marshall matched this one, to make the score read 2'J to 17 for B A C. Then Adams made two free throws and Smith one, and Adams connected from the field while Lundeen was adding one free throw for Dixie, to make the halftime score B A C 34, Dixie 20. As the third period opened the Broncos pulled away to a 45 to 26 lead, before Montgomery connected con-nected and Nielson got two charity chari-ty tosses to bring Dixie's score up to 30 points. Then the B A C pulled away again to .run the score to 54 to 33 at the end of the period. With the Broncos coasting through the final quarter quar-ter Dixie scored 17 points to the Broncos 13, but Coach Petty's team was never In danger, winning win-ning by a 67 to 50 margin. The Broncos were definitely up for this one and the Rebels didn't have a chance, although they never gave up trying.
