Show Lions Governor Attends Local Meeting Chester A. Thomas, assistant superintendent of Zi"n and Bryce Canyon national parks and district dis-trict governor of District 28-H, Lions International, made his official of-ficial visit to the Cedar City Lions club Monday. After meeting with club officers and committee chairmen during the forenoon, District Governor Thomas was the speaker at the regular meeting meet-ing of the club at noon. The district governor gave a most interesting talk at the cli.b meeting, outlining the importance import-ance of service to community, state and nation, and the part service plays in the lives of individuals. in-dividuals. Following this thought he pointed out the good that can come to all people through the service of Lions clubs throughout the world. Lion Thomas is one of the 248 district governors who supervise the activities of the 9,600 Lions clubs. Lions International was formally founded in 1917 in Dallas, Dal-las, Texas, and during the past 35 years has become the largest, most active, and fastest growing service club organization in the world. There are Lions clubs in 43 countries of the world with a membership of over 465,000. During Dur-ing the fiscal year of 1951-52, 909 new Lions clubs were organized a new club every 10 hours. The Lions clubs' special mission mis-sion is the promotion of good government and good citizenship, the development of civic, educational, educa-tional, social and moral welfare of the community and nation, and to help create and foster "a spirit of generous consideration among the peoples of the world", District Governor Thomas points out. The slogan of the Interna-tion Interna-tion Association of Lions club is "Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation's Na-tion's Safety." Cedar City Lions club is an active unit of the International Association of Lions Clubs, which is dedicated to community betterment bet-terment in all its aspect; to national na-tional and economic, social and cultural progress, and the promotion pro-motion of international understanding under-standing and amity, the district governor pointed out. In all these fields, Lions International has won strong Influence and prestige, pres-tige, because of its countless constructive con-structive services. |
