Show Dixie Division Race Tightens In Final Stretch With the high school basketball basket-ball race in the Dixie district turning into the home stretch this week, the race for the championship cham-pionship and a berth in the state tournament is still wide open. The Cedar City Redmen are on top of the heap at the present time and as a result, in the best position of any of the teams. However, the Redmen are not sure bets for the title by any means since they have three tough games on their schedule, two of them away from home. Enterprise and Hurricane, currently cur-rently tied for second, are very much in the race at this point, and either one may yet come out as first place winners. Enterprise Enter-prise has been at or near the top throughout the season, but Hurricane Hur-ricane has had to come from behind be-hind to get into challenging position. po-sition. Since losing to the Cedar team on Jan. 11 and to Kanab on Jan. 23, the Hurricane Tigers have won successive games from Dixie, Valley and Enterprise, and are playing their best ball of the season right now. This means that Coach Ray En-glestead's En-glestead's Cedar Redmen have their work cut out for them when they travel to Hurricane Friday night, for a return engagement withCoach Don Homer's Tigers. The Redmen trimmed the Tigers 45 to 38 in the B A C fieldhouse, but the Tigers seem to have improved im-proved considerably since then and on their own floor will be fmgh for the Redmen to handle. A defeat for Hurricane in Friday's Fri-day's game would just about 'eliminate the Tigers from any-chance any-chance of winning first, so they will be "up" for this game. The Enterprise Wolves have a tough job on their hands this week too. since they must tackle tac-kle the Valley Buffalos in the tiny Orderville gym Friday night. The Buffalos took the measure of the Wolves at Enterprise, 49 to 42, and will be favored to repeat re-peat Friday night. In the other game In the district. Dixie will play at Kanab, and the outcome looks like a toss up. After this week's play Hurricane Hurri-cane will have the better of the schedule. Next week the Tigers will entertain Kanab at Hurricane, Hurri-cane, and wind up the season on March 6 against Dixie, That game will be at St. George. Next week Cedar must go to Valley for what might be the toughest game of the season for the Redmen. In spite of the fact that the Redmen really walloped the Buffalos in the B A C field-house, field-house, 53 to 37, the change of gyms will even things up a lot. Enterprise will entertain Dixie that week end, and then in the wlndup game of the season for both teams. Enterprise and Cedar will clash at Cedar City on March 6. Kanab will play at Valley on March 6, and that game may be very Important, depending de-pending on the results of games this week and next, or it may just be a bit of cross-county rivalry riv-alry between the Buffalos and the Cowboys. |
