Show Prof. Blaine Johnson Comments On Lions Club Contest An interesting commentary on the International Lions Club quartet contest in New York last week, in which the Cedar City group won second place, w as received re-ceived today in a letter from Prof. Blaine Johnson, who is studying at Columbia University Universi-ty in New York. Prof. Johnson, who is head of the vocal music department at the College of Southern Utah, heard the contest and makes the following comment; "They were without doubt FAR superior to any of the others, oth-ers, yet they placed second to a showy outfit. I couldn't understand under-stand how judges could in any sense follow the score sheet and place this other group ahead of them. They should have been first by ALL aspects of judging. The judges were all from show business (Morton Downey's organization), or-ganization), and our fellows, being be-ing weak in showmanship which was weighted with only seven points as compared to 30 on tone production and 30 on information lost out to the gang that '"acted it up." Mrs. Lewis Palmer and family of Washington. D. C. are visiting in Cedar City with relatives. Mr. Palmer, who accompanied them as far as Denver, will join them ; here after a few days work in the Colorado capital city. They plan to spend several weeks visiting in Cedar City. I |
