Show Tractor Listed Number One Farm Hazard, Agent Reports The tractor leads as the major cause of all farm accidents, reports re-ports Stephen Brower, Iron County Coun-ty agricultural agent. Several Utahns have died of tractor accidents acci-dents this year and many have been injured. Nearly half of these accidents involved a tip over, and over one-fourth of the accidents involved children under 15 years of age. A tractor is not built like an automobile; it tips over much easier on hillsides, and if the load is not properly hitched, it may tip itself over on the level ground. Let's be careful on steep hills, and in ditches and always hitch the load to the tractor properly. A survey of tractor accidents in the United States showed that the second highest number of fatal fa-tal accidents happen to children between one and four years of age. It ma be a thrill for the youngster young-ster to ride on the tractor, but wouldn't it be showing him much more consideration if we refused him the ride rather than exposing expos-ing him to serious injury or death? We should wait until a child is old enough to have judgment 'and big enough to reach all controls con-trols easily before he is taught to drive a tractor. Instill in children chil-dren the idea that running power 'equipment is complicated and serious hazards are involved with (the use of it. |
